What to expect
Forests are not interchangeable. The white-sand soils of Allpahuayo Mishana support forest known as varillales. This is a place to slow down and have someone explain what you are looking at. The IIAP's José Álvarez Alonso biological station provides a specific starting point for discussing a visit.
How it fits into a journey
Give it its own half-day or day from Iquitos. Do not automatically combine it with a luggage transfer to Nauta.
